Are we still having practice?
Ah, my favorite question. In most cases the answer is always 'yes'. But there may be some extenuating circumstances so please read below.
If it is raining...
Then 95% of the time the answer is 'yes'. We can run on the track. The rain usually subsides and either cools it of or sometimes warms up the environment. If the rain is falling hard and fast we will head indoors to our fitness room and complete the workout there.
If it is lightening...
If it is lightening we will move our practice indoors or cancel practice before it begins. If we are caught outdoors once lightening has been spotted we will quickly seek cover or continue the workout indoors. We will remain indoors until 30 minutes after the last lightening strike, our athletic trainer says it is safe to be outside, or until practice is over.
If it is a flood warning, hurricane warning, or other severe weather warning...
It's best to cancel practice or a meet and ensure the safety of all the young people.
IF it is hott outside (90+)...
We will do our best to lighten our workout load. We will take extra water breaks in the shade. Practice times may be altered to early morning or late afternoon.
